I can never resist when a new product comes out from Apple to configure it with every option available just to see what the "fully loaded" cost would be.
With a product like the Mac Pro that starts at $2499 and has tons of high-end options you know it's going to be close to a down payment for a house. So here goes...
Mac Pro - base price $2499
Upgrade to 3GHz processors = $800
Add 16GB RAM = $5700
Upgrade Hard Drive Bay 1 to 500GB = $200
Add 500GB Hard Drive to Bay 2 = $400
Add 500GB Hard Drive to Bay 3 = $400
Add 500GB Hard Drive to Bay 4 = $400
Upgrade to the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 video card = $1650
Add second SuperDrive = $100
Add Bluetooth and Airport Extreme = $79
Add Apple USB Modem (Heheh, like I'm going to connect to AOL dial-up) = $49
Add Apple wireless keyboard and mouse = $60
Survey says... $12,188.00
For that money I better buy AppleCare for $249 so now I'm at $12,437. If you think about, if I'm going to spend that much money I should put a nice display(s) with it.
Add Apple 30' Cinema HD display = $1999 (they just reduced the price, whoohoo!)
Add second ('cause I can) Apple 30" Cinema HD Display = $1999
Here it comes, ready?
$16,435.00
So now when you buy the base model, which is very well equipped by the way, and your significant other can't believe how much money you spent you can explain how you really pared it down from what you really wanted.
having the most bad ass computer made = priceless!
